The primary theme of our career preparation courses is workforce skills development.  There are three options for Career Preparation including Career Technical Education, Workforce Skills Development sequences, and Electives.

The workforce skills development sequences are a product of our partnership with SDCOE.  In these sequences, students explore their strengths and interests, build resumes, create elevator pitches, take field trips to businesses and learn from guest speakers.

We are currently focused on formal CTE courses in the Building and Construction and Hospitality industries.  We landed on these industries because they are in high demand in our city, county and state. Both industries feature local opportunities to extend knowledge and skills int their respective fields. For example, the Hospitality industry supports 30% of the jobs in California and students who complete the Hospitality pathway at Surfside may elect to enroll in the Hospitality program and MiraCosta College.  Students who acquire skills in either industry are highly likely to find employment.
